All Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) families will receive additional Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) assistance to purchase food items anywhere SNAP benefits are accepted. As part of a plan approved by the USDA, Virginia has received authorization to provide this benefit for students who are learning virtually and in-person. The Virginia Department of Social Services began releasing benefits on March 17 retroactively for October and November 2020, and on March 20, the department began releasing benefits for the months of December and January. Beginning in March, monthly P-EBT benefits of up to $121.40 per student will be released on the 25th of each month through July 25, 2021. Families with students currently enrolled in NNPS that received the P-EBT benefit earlier this school year will receive these additional benefits on their existing P-EBT card or SNAP EBT card. Families who lost or no longer have their previously issued card should call ConnectEBT at 1-866-281-2448 to request a replacement card. Newly enrolled families will receive a P-EBT card by mail. Please watch closely for this mailing, as the outside envelope may not clearly indicate P-EBT information. For additional information, families may contact the P-EBT Call Center Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 866-513-1414 or 804-294-1633. Families may also use the online P-EBT inquiry form to submit questions. Links to more information and resources in English and Spanish are below.
