(PORTSMOUTH, VA – September 9, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, has announced that they will conduct an aerial mosquito treatment Monday, September 9, over federal property on Craney Island, weather permitting.
Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the contractor will use a fixed-wing aircraft to spray granular mosquito larvicide to target developing mosquito larvae. Per the Norfolk District, beekeepers in the affected areas do not need to take special precautions as the chemical used does not affect bees. If conditions do not allow spraying on Monday, the inclement weather date is Tuesday, September 10. For updates on mosquito spraying, please call the Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline at 757-393-8666.
