Applications Being Accepted for the Citizen Police Academy
| The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is accepting applications for the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) until Thursday, August 19. The CPA is a free interactive course designed to familiarize citizens with the daily operations of the NNPD. Sessions are Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. from September 16 until November 18. To participate, applicants must: be at least 18 years old;be a Newport News resident, own a business in the city, be a city employee, or have some type of connection to the City of Newport News; andpass a criminal background check.
