Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of USS Monitor’s Turret Recovery

By: City of Newport News

On Aug. 5, 2002, the turret of the USS Monitor broke from the water and emerged into daylight for the first time in 140 years. This year, The Mariners’ Museum and Park celebrates the 20th anniversary of this incredible achievement with a special community event.
This Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., bring your family and friends to the museum for a day of fun-filled adventure including scavenger hunts, STEM activities, virtual journeys, guest lectures, and more! All activities are included with $1 admission and free for Mariners’ Museum Members.
