Chesapeake Business December E-News & Highlights

Plasser American Corporation celebrates 60th anniversary and continues significant expansion of its facilities in Chesapeake, VA

December 2, 2021 – Plasser American Corporation dedicated a 45,000 square foot, three-story office building, the first structure in a comprehensive $52.6-million expansion of its North American headquarters and manufacturing center at their location in Chesapeake’s South Norfolk community.

The balance of the project included a new 82,000-square-foot manufacturing facility to double production capacity and purchase more equipment, including an updated industrial paint booth. Because of the growth, Plasser American will add 98 new jobs to its current workforce of just over 300 employees.

Among the speakers were Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, Johannes Max-Theurer, Shareholder & CEO of Plasser & Theurer in Austria, as well as Martin Weiss, Ambassador of Austrian Embassy, and Chesapeake Mayor Rick West.

Plasser American, which began in Illinois 60 years ago, relocated to Chesapeake in 1970 for milder weather and to be close to the Port of Virginia. Besides its manufacturing capabilities, the company provides railway inspection and railway repair vehicle services. Plasser American also has a first-of-its-kind training program that enables apprentices to gain hands-on experience while studying at Tidewater Community College.

Art is all around Summit Pointe

November 23, 2021 – Summit Pointe’s newest art installation, Green Dragon Rhythm by Rob Lorenson, is an urban streetscape sculpture. His metal work is an expression of form, space and placemaking. For Rob, every space is a new challenge, and every client is a new friend. This new sculpture provides visual engagement as well as cultural and social value. It has been installed on the plaza at 555 Belaire.

Serving up Tea at the Reignforest
The newly opened Reignforest Tea Bar in Chesapeake’s Greenbrier Mall offers a modern, refreshing twist on tea time.

Tiquerra “Reign” Roberts opened Reignforest Tea Bar in Chesapeake’s Greenbrier Mall in September. Available in tea bags for home brewing or for sipping in cups on-site, customers can try teas named Mood, Sweet Dreams, Calm, Island Hop, Lavender Lemonade and Lemon Pear. Gourmet salts, raw honey, and honey sticks are also available.

In addition to hot or cold drinks, Reignforest sells cakes and cookies that are mostly vegan and diet-sensitive, provided by local companies. Soon, Roberts said, she will be serving salads, sandwiches, avocado toast, waffles, and soups, all based on the lifestyles found in “blue zones” of the world — five select locations where people live the longest and healthiest.
