PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

FOOD LION MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#0 Samage Teel, Winston-Salem State
(r-So., 6-2 Guard – Greenville, NC)
In wins over Johnson C. Smith and Livingstone last week, Samage Teel averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 assists while shooting a sterling 55 percent from the field and 46 percent from deep. In the 69-60 win against the Golden Bulls, the redshirt sophomore finished with 14 points, six assists, and three boards. On the road versus the Blue Bears, the Greenville, NC native guided the Rams to an 88-83 overtime win with 21 points, three assists, and two steals while making 7-of-12 field goals. His three-pointer with 40 seconds left in regulation at Livingstone gave Winston-Salem State a 74-71 lead before the Blue Bears sent the game into overtime.


FOOD LION MEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#22 Jaylon Gibson, Winston-Salem State
(Jr., 6-10 Center – Zebulon, NC)

In a pair of wins last week, Jaylon Gibson totaled 28 points and 16 rebounds with two blocks and a steal. Against Johnson C. Smith, the junior tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, a block, and a steal on 7-of-10 shooting. Versus Livingstone, Gibson again dropped 14 points with eight boards and a block, while making six-of-eight field goals.

FOOD LION MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#23 Amare Wimbush, Bowie State
(Fr., 6-7 Forward – Landover, MD)
Amare Wimbush averaged 10 points and eight rebounds in two games last week. Against Shaw, the freshman recorded his first career double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points and he also added two steals and a block. The Landover, MD native had 10 points, four boards, and two blocks versus Virginia State.




FOOD LION WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#23 Jayla Irvin, Bowie State
(Jr., 5-8 Guard – Alexandria, VA)
Jayla Irvin led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of their two wins last week. Averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories over Virginia State and Shaw, the junior had a game-high 22 points versus the Trojans and 17 off the bench against the Bears. The Alexandria, VA native added four boards, two steals, and an assist in the Virginia State game and tallied six rebounds and a steal against Shaw.
FOOD LION WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#30 Katerra Myers, Bowie State
(r-Fr., 5-8 Guard – Burtonsville, MD)
Kattera Myers was part of a Bowie State defense that held Virginia State to 47 points and Shaw to 60 points last week. On the road against the Bears in a 64-60 overtime win, the redshirt freshman had 11 rebounds and a steal with four points and three assists. The Burtonsville, MD native had five boards and a steal versus the Trojans.
FOOD LION WOMEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#30 D’Ayzha Atkinson, Lincoln (PA)
(Fr., 5-10 Forward – Philadelphia, PA)
In limited minutes as a reserve, D’Ayzha Atkinson averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in three games (2-1 record) last week. The freshman’s best game last week came against Virginia State, where she tallied 11 points and four boards in 18 minutes. The Philadelphia, PA native contributed six points and three rebounds in 12 minutes in a non-conference game against Washington Adventist.
