| The Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts opened a Community Testing Center (CTC) in Newport News at the Sherwood Shopping Center (13785 Warwick Boulevard). On site COVID testing is available in a heated tent on the same property as the Community Vaccination Center. The site opens today and will operate by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Thursday. Weekend testing will be available Saturday through Monday, January 29-31. Walk-ins are not accepted. The CTC will provide free Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19. PCR test results are usually available within a few days and are very effective in detecting an active COVID-19 infection, even if asymptomatic. CTC test results will be sent automatically via text or email message. To find an appointment for a COVID test, visit vase.vdh.virginia.gov/testingappointment. If you receive a message stating “No active clinics found,” that means the testing facility is fully booked for the next several days and appointments are not available at the time. New appointments will be released on a rolling basis, so please check back regularly. You can also expand your distance range to see appointments at other clinics. Residents are encouraged to get a COVID vaccine or booster at the Sherwood Vaccination Clinic or another pharmacy or provider. To schedule yours, visit www.vaccinate.virginia.gov. |
