Hampton Releases 2016-17 Men’s Basketball Schedule

HAMPTON, Va. – The two-time defending MEAC champion Hampton University men’s basketball team has unveiled its 2016-17 schedule, a slate that includes 13 home games – including five in non-conference play.

The Pirates will open up the season on Nov. 11 by playing host to Rider – marking the first time Hampton has opened a season in the Convocation Center since 2013-14. From there, the Pirates will head to Princeton, N.J. on Nov. 14 to take on Princeton, before returning home on Nov. 17 to face Division II Chowan.

Hampton will then be on the road for the next five games, starting on Nov. 20 with a tilt at Kansas State. The Pirates will then be at Richmond on Nov. 22, before competing in the Barclays Classic on Nov. 25-26, heading to Baltimore, Md. in a pod that includes Robert Morris, Stony Brook, and Towson.

A Nov. 29 game at East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. will end the road trip, before the Pirates return home on Dec. 3 to face William & Mary. Hampton will then head to Boiling Springs, N.C. on Dec. 7 to take on Gardner-Webb, before returning home on Dec. 17 to face Winthrop.

A Dec. 21 match-up at Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. will wrap up the pre-Christmas slate.

A Dec. 30 match-up against Coker, on top of being the Pirates’ non-conference finale, will kick off a four-game homestand. The next three games – Jan. 4 against North Carolina A&T State, Jan. 7 against South Carolina State, and Jan. 9 against Savannah State – will kick off MEAC play.

Hampton will then head to Dover, Del. on Jan. 14 to take on Delaware State before returning home on Jan. 16 to take on North Carolina Central. The Pirates will take on rival Norfolk State in Echols Hall on Jan. 21, before returning home for contests against Coppin State (Jan. 30) and Maryland Eastern Shore (Feb. 1).

Feb. 4 and 6 will see the Pirates on the road, taking on Savannah State and South Carolina State on those respective dates. Hampton will return home on Feb. 11 to take on rival Howard, before a three-game road stretch follows.

That stretch will begin at Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 18, before heading to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida A&M on Feb. 20. A match-up at Morgan State in Baltimore, Md. on Feb. 25 will wrap up the road swing.

Hampton’s home finale will be on Feb. 27 against rival Norfolk State, and the regular season will wrap up at Coppin State on March 3.

The 2017 MEAC Basketball Championships will be held March 6-11 in Norfolk Scope Arena.
