Hampton University Receives $50,000 from Vanguard to Provide Direct Emergency Support during COVID-19 Pandemic

VALLEY FORGE, PA – (June 30, 2020) – Hampton University has received $50,000 from Vanguard to provide direct emergency support to select HBCU’s that have been impacted by COVID-19.

“Hampton University is thankful for the generosity of Vanguard, and appreciative of the support they are giving to HBCU’s during these challenging times. It is in these times that it is important for all of us to come together, be supportive of one another and lend a helping hand to those who need it,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

During these unprecedented times, Hampton University, like so many other universities and colleges across the nation, have had to navigate through these new circumstances and face challenges head on. Vanguard’s gift will help guarantee that Hampton University continues to educate the best and the brightest students in the nation.

Vanguard has a long history of partnering with HBCUs and has developed a comprehensive recruiting strategy designed to reach underrepresented communities. The firm has established long-term commitments with marquee partnerships and conferences, including the Thurgood Marshall College Fund Leadership Institute and the HBCU Career Development Marketplace. Vanguard’s Black Professional Network, a Crew Resource Group committed to engaging, encouraging, and supporting Black crew members in their personal and professional development, frequently engages with HBCUs to develop high-impact experiential learning initiatives.

Recently, Dr. Ziette Hayes, Dean of the Hampton University James T. George School of Business, joined a Vanguard Black Professional Network (VBPN) panel discussion about HBCUs. Speakers shared the important role HBCUs play in preparing generations of black leaders and their partnership with corporations.

Company time, financial resources, and meaningful professional engagement are ingredients to establishing a long lasting relationship. We are appreciative of the relationship building we have established with Vanguard. Over the past two years, we have had several meaningful engagement opportunities both on and off campus that involved myself as Dean, Assistant Dean, Sylvia Rose and many of our students,” said Dr. Hayes. “To know that Vanguard supports our effort to continue to educate our students during the COVID-19 pandemic is additional evidence of their commitment to growing this relationship. I look forward to future opportunities to work with Vanguard to develop the next generation of black corporate leadership.”
