HU Alumna New Evening Anchor for Hampton Roads NBC Affiliate
Hampton, Va – Hampton University alumna and former Miss Hampton, Anita Blanton has been named early and late evening news anchor for WAVY-TV 10 and sister station FOX43. Effective immediately Blanton can be seen on WAVY News 10 at 5pm, 6pm and 11pm as well as WAVY News 10 at 10pm on FOX43.
“This promotion means the world to me,” said Blanton. “It all feels so surreal, to be given this promotion at the place I had my first internship makes it all come full circle. To be a main anchor, in a place I love, and consider home is very special. This is a lesson for all Scripps majors to work hard and take your internships very seriously.”
Blanton, a 2005 graduate of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications, has for the past three years served as co-anchor of WAVY News 10 at 4pm and 5:30pm in addition to her reporting duties with 10 On Your Side.
Blanton began her journalism career as a reporter at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas, before heading to Central Texas to work at KWTX-TV in Waco and WRIC-TV in Richmond, VA. From Richmond Blaton moved on to KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, OK where she served as morning anchor for four years.
