NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Langley Federal Credit Union donated $10,000 to Big
Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Virginia Peninsula (BBBSGVP) for
support of their youth mentoring programs. The organization provides
positive role models for children to identify with and emulate, which then
encourages them to do better socially and in school.

"The success of our programs depend on the support received by our
community partners such as Langley," stated BBBSGVP CEO Ayanna King.
"Based on our annual evaluations, 94% of our youth have improved their
social-emotional competence by having a mentor in their life, 98% have
avoided risky behavior and 85% have improved their educational success."

Big Brothers Big Sisters matches adult volunteers and children, ages 6
through 18, in Williamsburg, James City County, Gloucester, York County,
Poquoson, Newport News and Hampton. Once mentors are matched with a child,
they work to build a relationship by talking, playing games, attending
functions together, etc. National research has shown that the positive
relationship between a child and their mentor has a direct impact on that
child's life.

During 2016, BBBSGVP served 186 youth on the Peninsula. There are
currently 65 children on a waiting list for mentors. If you are
