Master Gardeners Host Rain Barrel Workshops
By: City of Newport News
Did you know that using a rain barrel is a great way to save money and help conserve water? A rain barrel captures rainwater from your roof to reduce runoff and provide water for lawns, gardens, and indoor plants to use in dry weather. The Newport News Master Gardeners Association is hosting a series of rain barrel workshops so you can create your own. For just $60, you will receive all of the materials you need and admission to an in-person demonstration on how to assemble your rain barrel.
Rain barrel workshops will take place at 10 a.m. on these dates:
- February 11- Brittingham Midtown Community Center (570 McLawhorne Dr.)
- March 18- Newport News Recovery Operations Center (520 Atkinson Blvd.)
- April 22- CNU Garden Symposium (1 University Pl.)
- May 27- The Mariners’ Museum and Park (100 Museum Dr.)
- September 9- Brittingham Midtown Community Center (570 McLawhorne Dr.)
Advanced registration is required. To register or learn more about the workshops, call the Newport News Virginia Cooperative Extension Office at 757-591-4838 or visit www.nnmastergardeners.org. Please be aware that you will need to take your rain barrel home in a vehicle large enough to accommodate a 55-gallon drum.
