Newport News to Host Shipbuilders’ Day Job Fair on August 13

Earlier this year, the Virginia General Assembly designated August 13 Shipbuilders’ Day in celebration of our state’s maritime heritage as a national leader in the shipbuilding industry. To honor the contributions of maritime employers and support their workforce needs, the City of Newport News is partnering with Volunteers of America Chesapeake, Newport News Public Schools and The Academies of Hampton to host a Shipbuilders’ Day Job Fair.
The public is invited to this free event on August 13 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Four Oaks Day Service Center at 7401 Warwick Boulevard. Employers from the maritime, shipbuilding and ship repair industries will be on-site, highlighting their open positions. Participating employers include Newport News Shipbuilding, Virginia Ship Repair Association, Fair lead, Southeast Maritime and Transportation Center, Hampton Roads Community Action Program, Virginia Career Works, the Virginia Employment Commission, and more.
Registration is not required. If your business would like to participate in the event, contact Lisa Taylor with Virginia Career Works at 757-766-4915 or LTaylor@vcwpeninsula.com
