NNTV Program Highlights Newport News Businesses During the Pandemic
While some businesses are re-opening on Friday, we must continue to be vigilant in our safety precautions to stay safe while protecting our family and friends. The progress that was made under Governor Northam’s Stay at Home order has saved lives. We need to keep following safety guidelines to continue the progress we’ve made. That means wear a mask or facial covering, practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently and avoid large gatherings.
To share best practices and tips on how to stay safe as businesses re-open, Newport News Television (NNTV) created “ Flattening the Curve ,” a program featuring Mayor McKinley L. Price and Dr. Steve Julian with the Virginia Department of Health. The program begins with Xavier from Newport News Shipbuilding describing the practices they’ve put in place to keep shipbuilders safe. Mr. Beale also addresses frequently asked questions, including why the Shipbuilding stayed open during the pandemic and how they are getting Personal Protective Equipment to employees. Throughout the program, Dr. Julian offers insight on the coronavirus and suggestions on how to remain safe. He also tells viewers how to properly sanitize to-go meals and store purchases.
Mayor Price and Dr. Julian also took time to interview two Newport News businesses making a difference during the pandemic, Riverside Paper Supply and Ironclad Distillery. Riverside Paper Supply changed their business model during the pandemic and is now selling paper and cleaning supplies to the public during drive-up sales. Ironclad Distillery , known for their bourbon, began making hand sanitizer, which they are selling to the public and distributing to local non-profits. Newport News businesses are working hard to keep people safe and meet vital community needs during this challenging time!
