Portsmouth ’s Virginia Cooperative Extension Program Observes National Nutrition Month

(PORTSMOUTH, VA – March 2, 2020) – March is National Nutrition Month and the team at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office in Portsmouth is holding a workshop titled, Season4Health: Manage Sodium Intake Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the New Genesis Worship Center, 3114 Tyre Neck Road. The Virginia Cooperative Extension is a project funded by Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Workshop presenters include Crystal Barber, registered dietician and family and consumer sciences agent; Ramon Polk, certified personal trainer; Maurice Thompson, Ground Up Life Chef; and extension volunteers. Workshop participants will get an exercise demonstration, information on new blood pressure guidelines and tips on reading and understanding food nutrition fact labels. The workshop is free but registration is required. Call 757-393-5125 to lock in your reservation. Lunch will be provided. Bring a nutrition facts label from one of your favorite foods and the nutrition experts will explain how to read the labels and show you what all those numbers really mean.
