Portsmouth to Host Senior Sports Days During Older Americans Month
The Portsmouth Department of Parks and Recreation will host the annual Senior Sports Days beginning on Monday, May 8th, with a schedule of events each day through Thursday, May 11th. Individuals, ages 50 years and older, will participate in sports and competitions that will test their mental and physical abilities. Each day will consist of a different sport or game with gold, silver, and bronze medals presented in each age category. The games and contests will take place at various times and locations as listed in the information below.
Portsmouth’s Senior Sports Days are held annually in May during Older Americans Month with a 2024 theme, “Aging Unbound”. The Portsmouth Senior Station and the Portsmouth Task Force on Aging are partnering to host this four-day event which is sure to be an inspiration and motivation to people of all ages to never stop moving. The grand sponsor is UnitedHealth Care.
The Senior Sports Days schedule of events and locations are as follows:
- Monday– May 8th
- Golf at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course –Tee Off 8 a.m.
- Billiards at Senior Station at 10 a.m.
- Tuesday– May 9th
- Track/Field at I.C. Norcom High School Track Field at 8:30 a.m.
- Senior Information Day at Sportsplex at 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Opening Ceremony at Sportsplex at 11:15 a.m.
- Softball Hit and Throw at Sportsplex
- Corn Hole at Sportsplex
- Wednesday– May 10th; Events start 9 a.m.
- Dominoes at Sportsplex
- Spades at Sportsplex
- Pickle Ball at Sportsplex
- Checkers at Sportsplex
- Frisbee Throw at Sportsplex
- Thursday– May 11th; Events start at 8:30 a.m.
- Bocce Ball at Sportsplex
- Horseshoes at Sportsplex
- Beanbag Toss at Sportsplex
- Basketball Throw at Sportsplex
