ROAD CLOSURES AND POSSIBLE TRAFFIC DELAYS

SUFFOLK, VA (September 4, 2019) The following roads in the City of Suffolk will have closures that could cause delays, Wednesday, September 4, 2019, due to construction and maintenance projects.

New Projects:

(various locations) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have mobile operations on Camp Pond Road, Ellis Road, New Road, Gates Road, and Chappell Drive for drainage maintenance from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(Ruritan Boulevard) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have a shoulder closure on the Ruritan Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Route 58 for drainage maintenance from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(Queen Street, Wise Street, Cole Avenue) – A contractor will have crews working on Queen Street, Wise Street, and Cole Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 4 and September 5.

(West Washington Street) – Suffolk Department of Public Utilities will have a mobile lane closure in the 300 to 400 block of West Washington Street from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

(Nansemond Parkway) – Suffolk Department of Public Utilities will have a mobile lane closure in the 1200 block of Nansemond Parkway from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(Route 13/32 Bypass) – A contractor will have a mobile operation on the Route 13/32 Bypass for vegetation maintenance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Bridge Road) – A contractor will have a mobile operation on Bridge Road between College Drive and the Isle of Wight County line for vegetation maintenance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Washington Street) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have a flagging operation on Washington Street between Hollywood Avenue and 12th Street for drainage maintenance from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

(Manning Road) – A contractor will have a flagging operation in the 4100 to 4800 block of Manning Road for a milling and paving operation from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Whaleyville Boulevard) – Suffolk Department of Public Works will have a mobile operation on Whaleyville Boulevard between Liberty Spring Road and Rosewood Drive for drainage maintenance from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Upcoming Projects:

(Pughsville Road) – Beginning, Monday, September 9, 2019, a contractor will have Pughsville Road closed with a detour in place between Townpoint Road and Shoulders Hill Road. The road is expected to be closed to through traffic for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, accommodations will be made for residents, emergency vehicles, and school bus only.

Ongoing Projects:

(Nansemond Parkway) – A contractor will have a flagging operation on Nansemond Parkway between Monticello View and Cedar Lake Drive for a drainage pipe installation from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 6.

(Mineral Spring Road) – Beginning, Thursday, June 27, Mineral Spring Road will be closed between Holland Corner Road and Arthur Drive. The current bridge over Jones Swamp will be removed and replaced with a concrete structure. The work will also include elevating a section of Mineral Spring Road. The road is expected to be closed with a detour until approximately November 2019.
