Shocker! Electrician wins $250,000 in Virginia Lottery Isle of Wight man wins top prize in Big Winning Numbers Scratcher game

Every morning on his way to work, Hunter Atkins stops for an energy drink. Sometimes the Carrsville man also plays a Virginia Lottery game.

That’s how he happened to be scratching a Big Winning Numbers ticket and discovered he’d won the game’s $250,000 top prize.

“I was actually in shock more than anything,” he said as he claimed his

prize. “It was kind of hard to believe.” He bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 6020 Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk.

Mr. Atkins claimed the fifth and final $250,000 prize in Big Winning Numbers (game #1489), which means the game is now ended. It’s the Virginia

Lottery’s policy to close Scratcher games when the last winning ticket is claimed. However, there are dozens of other Virginia Lottery Scratcher games available at retailers statewide.

Mr. Atkins, who works as an electrician, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
