U.S. Department of EnergyWe invite you to join Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm and Director Shalanda Baker of the US Department of Energy for a live webinar to discuss the Justice40 Initiative.This Justice40 Webinar will feature representatives from offices across the department highlighting how their programs, including those funded by the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, are already working toward Justice40.This free, public webinar will take place on August 17 @ 2 pm EST. Please register here: https://bit.ly/Justice40.In the meantime, check out what our Justice40 Programs have accomplished by looking at our Program Highlights SheetHighlights include:$3.16 billion in new funding through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP),$102 million in funding and support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and$16 million in technical assistance for community-led transitions to a clean energy economy for 24 low-income, energy-burdened communities that are also experiencing either direct environmental justice impacts or direct economic impacts from a shift away from historical reliance on fossil fuels in the first-of-its-kind Communities Local Energy Action Program (Communities LEAP) Pilot. The document highlights numerous efforts already made by DOE to direct resources to and build capacity in low-income communities and communities of color. While this is all great progress, we know this is not enough and we are not stopping here. We want to reiterate that DOE is laser-focused on ensuring that every project that receives funding through a DOE Justice40 Covered Program adheres to the principles of environmental justice. Our Environmental Justice Explainer discusses in more detail and reinforces that commitment. You can learn more about the Justice40 Initiative at DOE, find the attached resources and more on our Justice40 Initiative website. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at energyjustice@hq.doe.gov.
