Highlights include:$3.16 billion in new funding through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP),$102 million in funding and support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), and$16 million in technical assistance for community-led transitions to a clean energy economy for 24 low-income, energy-burdened communities that are also experiencing either direct environmental justice impacts or direct economic impacts from a shift away from historical reliance on fossil fuels in the first-of-its-kind Communities Local Energy Action Program (Communities LEAP) Pilot.The document highlights numerous efforts already made by DOE to direct resources to and build capacity in low-income communities and communities of color. While this is all great progress, we know this is not enough and we are not stopping here. We want to reiterate that DOE is laser-focused on ensuring that every project that receives funding through a DOE Justice40 Covered Program adheres to the principles of environmental justice. Peace Corps Response sends experienced professionals to undertake short-term, high-impact service assignments in communities around the world.
