Virginia Choral Society Opens Season with Broadway Hits

The Virginia Choral Society opens its season with a concert series that has something for everyone. “Give My Regards to Broadway” will take you on a journey of show tunes that will bring back fond memories, tug at your heartstrings, make you dance in your seat, and have you shouting, “Bravo! Encore!” 

Under the direction of Dr. Bryson Mortenson, the chorus will perform selections from Carousel, Hair, A Chorus Line, Ragtime, Les Misérables, Into the Woods, and more. The Newport News concert takes place Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, 414 Hiden Blvd. This is sure to be an amazing afternoon with family and friends! 

Additional concerts scheduled for this season include one in December featuring Timothy Takach’s The Longest Nights, a beautiful journey from the winter solstice to spring, as well as an assortment of classic holiday favorites. The season wraps up in May with a spectacular production of a newly released piece The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci featuring video projections synchronized to the chorus and chamber orchestra.

Advance tickets for individual concerts are available for $18, or $16 for seniors, military, or students, and can be purchased on the Virginia Choral Society’s website. A group rate for 10 or more is $12 per ticket. At the door tickets are $20, or $16 for seniors, military or students. Children under 9 are free. Season tickets are also available.
