Warner, Kaine Press Trump Administration Over Extended Deployments

U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine are pressing the Trump administration about the impact of extended military deployments on families. Their concerns follow meetings with military families and sailors from the USS Gerald R. Ford. The Norfolk-based carrier returned home in May after an 11-month deployment that placed added strain on sailors and their loved ones. In a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao, the senators raised concerns about family separation, servicemember well-being and military readiness. They also pointed to the USS Abraham Lincoln’s deployment of more than 265 days and reports of difficult conditions aboard the ship. Warner and Kaine are now seeking answers about how the administration tracks these challenges and supports military families during lengthy deployments.
