Workforce Development Opportunities Abound this Month! Register for free virtual job fairs and webinars

Virginia Career Works and the Hampton Roads Workforce Council are ready to help you sharpen your skills and prepare for a new career or fresh start. Throughout March, they have partnered with different groups to offer virtual training sessions and job fairs.    The Virginia Employment Commission is hosting a virtual state-wide hiring event to connect residents with employers who are hiring now! The Greater Richmond and Hampton Roads session is Thursday, March 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Register online and be sure to upload your resume and other supporting documents.  The Hampton Roads Workforce Council is hosting free live webinars on how to create a resume that catches attention and how to ace a job interview. Sessions will be offered over lunch and in the early evenings, so job seekers and those who are working but looking to make a change, can participate. Sessions include: 

 Those looking to move beyond their past mistakes to create a bright future are encouraged to attend the free “A Second Chance” workshop on Friday, March 26 at 10 a.m. Virginia Career Works has partnered with the Newport News Sheriff’s Office to offer a Zoom session on how to address your criminal record, what to say during the interview, where to find hidden jobs, how to avoid the top five application mistakes, and more.  Virginia Career Works has also teamed up with the Virginia Tidewater Consortium for Higher Education to host a free Educational, Career and Financial Aid Advising Session on Wednesday, March 17 at 1 p.m. During this webinar, participants will learn how financial aid works, gain information on FAFSA, receive resources on where to look for help, and get instruction on how to apply for aid, loans, Pell Grants and scholarships. This Zoom webinar is free and open to people of all ages. Virginia Career Works offers a variety of free services for job seekers. If you are looking for work, have been laid off, or want to receive training to advance in life, Virginia Career Works is here for you. Learn more about the organization and their resources, including their Career Planners and Career Advisors, during free orientation sessions. Attend onlineregister to schedule a virtual orientation, or call 757-766-4901 to book an in-person session.
