YMCA Hosting Peninsula Food Drive
Many are struggling with hunger and food insecurity as a result of the coronavirus, and the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank needs our support. The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is hosting food drives at their locations throughout the region to collect items for the Foodbank. To donate non-perishable items, simply drive up to the front of the YMCA on the date of the collection and pop your trunk. YMCA staff members and volunteers will take the items from the trunk with no human-to-human contact.
In Newport News, the collection will be held on Wednesday, May 6 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Tom & Ann Hunnicutt Family YMCA, which is located at 7827 Warwick Boulevard. For a list of other collection dates and sites, visit www.ymcavp.org/peninsula-food-drive.
While all contributions are appreciated, the most needed items include:
- Canned tuna, chicken or ham
- Canned vegetables
- Pasta meals and sauces
- Canned Fruit or Fruit Cups
- Hearty meaty soups
- Whole Wheat Crackers
- Cereal, Breakfast Bars, Oatmeal
- Boxed Rice, Whole Wheat Pasta
- 100% Fruit Juices
- Peanut Butter and Jelly
