Announcing the Launch of Norfolk Public Library’s Redesigned Website

NORFOLK, VA – With library patrons in mind, Norfolk Public Library’s new redesigned website features many of the same core features and functionality streamed for the ultimate user-friendly experience.

Visitors are invited to explore the new colorful and uncluttered site at www.norfolkpubliclibrary.org.

Director of Libraries Sonal Rastogi states, “We hope you will find our new website to be much like a virtual library branch, easy to navigate with an extension of the same valuable resources, quality services, and delivery of knowledge and information to the community that is available at all Norfolk Public Library neighborhood branches.”

Resources within the website are easily accessible directly from the homepage. These include the library’s search catalog and access to NPL’s digital collection, which is made up of eAudiobooks, eBooks, digital magazines and newspapers.

Additional new features include an Adult Programs webpage, a hub of learning and enriching activities aimed to keep people connected with all that NPL has to offer, and a Learning Resources webpage with links to more than 90 databases that are free to use with a Norfolk Public Library card, and information about free classes on a wide variety of subjects.

“These features are globally accessible 24/7 to anyone, anywhere,” says Rastogi.  “If I’m visiting my family in India or Asia, even though there is an 11-hour time difference, I can easily jump on the NPL website to renew a book or access a service.”

During the redesign, staff worked hard with developers to adhere to WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) to ensure that all users can access the resources in NPL’s collections and on the website. The site has also been built with a responsive layout for all platforms.
