Apply to be Part of the Citizen Public Works Academy

Have you ever wanted to understand the why and how of the city’s Public Works Department? Well here’s your chance! The Newport News Department of Public Works is accepting applications for its Citizen Public Works Academy (CPWA) for residents.

The Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to learn firsthand about the Department of Public Works. Through a series of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and field trips, citizens are given an inside look at day-to-day operations. Participants will get to meet the people working on their behalf and learn about various services offered by the city.

The academy runs for 10 weeks, with most classes held between 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday nights at the Public Works Annex, 511 Oyster Point Road. The upcoming CPWA class begins on September 15 and runs through November 17. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a Newport News resident.

Apply by August 31 by visiting the Citizen Public Works Academy website. For additional information, call 757-933-2311 or email cpwa@nnva.gov.
