Ashton McCormick Receives a Surprise Birthday Present from Portsmouth Fire Rescue and Emergency Services

On April 13, Fire Chief Mangubat, Deputy Chief Arnold and FF English presented Ashton McCormick with a fire helmet at Portsmouth Fire Station 7.

Ashton, who has Autism and ADHD, has been a fan of the fire service for many years. A few years ago his mother, Jennifer McCormick, made contact with FF English in regards to Ashton wanting to ride in a real fire truck as one of his Christmas wishes. FF English with others from the department brought Ashton to the station and fulfilled his wish. Since that day, Ashton and FF English have kept in touch.

As a surprise birthday present this year, Ashton was presented with his own fire helmet with a custom shield that has his name on it. What an honor it was to give Ashton this helmet not only for his birthday, but to also support Autism Awareness month.

Thanks to Battalion Chief Riley, Capt. Weber, Lt. Whalen, and FF Cushman for their assistance in the presentation to Ashton.
