Bulldogs Earn Second Consecutive CIAA Bowling Championship
Chesapeake, VA – In the final rounds of the bracket, the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University held off Fayetteville University to earn the 2016 CIAA Bowling Championship Title!
Heading in to the championship match, the Bulldogs were undefeated and taking on the Broncos who persevered the losers bracket and a tough matchup versus the Virginia State University Trojans. To keep up, the Broncos knew they would need to defeat the defending CIAA Champion Bulldogs twice in a row to fulfill the double elimination bracket. In that first round, FSU handed BSU their first loss going 4-1. Round two started strong for the Bulldogs who won the first two games. In game three, FSU managed to steal the win by one point, 181-180. After that, Bowie State capitalized on two more victories for their second consecutive Bowling Championship Title.

Saturday’s competition began with Bowie State topping Elizabeth City State University and Virginia State downing Fayetteville State at 4-1 records. Chowan University sent Johnson C. Smith home with a 4-0 shutout while Shaw University was eliminated by Saint Augustine’s University, 4-1.
Round #3 featured an intense seven game battle between BSU and VSU. The final record reflected 4-2 while one game resulted in a tie at 179. The Hawks continued their journey by knocking out Elizabeth City State with a 4-1 mark.
FSU had dropped to the loser bracket, but made their way back in to championship contention by knocking out Chowan and then Virginia State, who ended their season the third place CIAA team.
