FOOD LION MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

#12 DJ Thomas, Shaw
(Jr., 5-8 Guard – Raleigh, NC)In a pair of wins last week, DJ Thomas averaged 18.5 points while shooting 61 percent from the field. In addition to the 19 points he scored against Winston-Salem State, the Raleigh, NC native scored the go-ahead basket (and free throw for a three-point play) with 4.7 seconds left. The junior shot 8-of-12 on field goals against the Rams while adding three steals, three assists, and three rebounds. In the win over Johnson C. Smith, the five-foot-eight guard dropped 18 points (6-of-11 shooting), three rebounds, and two assists.

FOOD LION MEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#5 Darryl Myers, Fayetteville State
(Sr., 6-6 Forward – Raleigh, NC)

In two games last week, Darryl Myers totaled 20 rebounds, 16 points, two steals, and a block. In the 65-64 win over Lincoln (PA), the senior recorded season-high tallies of 14 points and 14 rebounds while scoring the game-winning basket with four seconds remaining for the Broncos.

FOOD LION MEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#5 Ezekiel Cannedy, Johnson C. Smith
(Fr, 6-2 Guard – Kings Mountain, NC)Ezekiel Cannedy averaged 16.5 points on 50 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent from three in a pair of games last week for the Golden Bulls. The freshman scored 21 points with two rebounds, two assists, and a steal against Shaw. In that game against the Bears, the Kings Mountain, NC native shot 8-of-14 on field goals and 5-of-10 from deep. In a game against Elizabeth City State, the six-foot-two guard finished with 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds. 

FOOD LION WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

#0 Anyssa Fields, Lincoln (PA)
(So., 6-0 Forward – Long Branch, NJ)Anyssa Fields averaged 17.5 points in wins over Fayetteville State and St. Augustine’s last week. The sophomore scored a team-high 22 points with four rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block against the Falcons while making 8-of-15 field goals. Versus the Broncos, the Long Branch, NJ native scored a game-high 13 points, along with four boards, two assists, and a steal.

FOOD LION WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

#24 Saniha Jackson, Bowie State
(So., 5-10 Forward – Ellicott City, MD)In a pair of wins last week, Saniha Jackson totaled 26 points, 15 rebounds, and two steals. In the 64-54 win over St. Augustine’s, the Ellicott City, MD native registered her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, both numbers season-highs for the sophomore. The five-foot-10 forward also had two steals against the Falcons. Versus Claflin, Jackson had 10 points and five boards.

FOOD LION WOMEN’S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

#22 India Howard, Johnson C. Smith
(Fr., 6-1 Forward – Coppell, TX)

India Howard averaged 14.7 rebounds and 8.7 points over three games last week for the Golden Bulls. In a league game against Elizabeth City State, the freshman recorded 22 rebounds, a conference-high for most rebounds in a single game this season. The Coppell, TX native also scored 12 points and logged a season-high 4 steals against the Vikings. Against Shaw, the six-foot-one forward had 11 rebounds and nine points and Howard also had 11 boards and five points in a non-conference contest against Francis Marion.
