Councilman Harris Hosts Re-Up School Supply Drive

Sunday event provides school supplies, resources to students, teachers
Can you believe the school year is nearly halfway over? As students and teachers prepare for the second semester, Councilman Marcellus Harris wants to ensure they have the supplies they need to finish the year successfully. All are invited to his 6th Annual Re-Up School Supply Event this Sunday, Feb. 5, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Denbigh Community Center (15198 Warwick Blvd.).  During the event, Councilman Harris and others will distribute FREE school supplies to students and teachers. Barbers from Tomorrow’s Image will be on-site to provide free haircuts throughout the day. The Heart of Giving will give out free children’s clothing, and mental health professionals will share resources with families. In addition to giveaways and tons of useful information, the event includes a lot of FUN! Dance to live music by DJ Lawrence, enjoy performances by local cheerleading groups, and cheer on the Tri-Citi Youth Foundation during their basketball showcases.  Newport News youth and teachers are invited to this free event and registration is not required. Donations are still being accepted. For more information, call 757-273-2058.
