A regional, state-managed Community Vaccination Center (CVC) opened in Newport News today. Up to 1,000 vaccines a day will be administered at this CVC, which is located at 13785 Warwick Boulevard in the former Sherwood Shopping Center. The CVC will be open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. for individuals who make an appointment (walk-ins are not accepted). The Pfizer vaccine is being administered at this clinic, so it is open to everyone ages 16 and older. Those under 18 must have a parent or guardian and identification. The Newport News Community Vaccination Center will replace the current vaccination center at Christopher Newport University (CNU). A final clinic will operate at CNU tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. First and second shots of the Moderna vaccine will be offered and the public can sign-up online. Those who receive their first vaccine at the CNU Clinic and still need a second vaccine will be contacted about scheduling an appointment at the new CVC Clinic. While the Pfizer vaccine is being offered at the Newport News CVC, the clinic is being allocated Moderna vaccines to cover everyone who received their first Moderna vaccine at the CNU clinic. The Newport News CVC clinic will not replace other efforts by the Virginia Department of Health, hospital systems, medical practices, pharmacies and other sites to deliver COVID-19 vaccines. Individuals can schedule an appointment for the Newport News CVC by visiting the clinic’s page on vaccinate.virginia.gov or by calling the COVID Vaccine Hotline at 1-877-VAX-IN-VA (1-877-829-4682). Additional languages are available. The city will continue to post links to the clinic on our COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics webpage and social media pages.
