To make the holidays enjoyable for young patients and their families this season, local Firehouse Subs franchisee David Womick donated over 300 new, unwrapped presents to the children’s hospital on behalf of  Hampton Roads Firehouse Subs restaurants. This remarkable gift  was the result of a one-day toy drive that was organized on Saturday, November 26, at every Firehouse Subs location in Hampton Roads. Every contributor who brought in a brand-new, unwrapped item was given a complimentary medium sub of their choice as a token of appreciation. All donations will be given to kids this Christmas season who need a little extra holiday spirit. Several of the toys will be given to patients during the holiday season to take home, helping to fill the shelves in the playroom for kids to play with while they are in the hospital. Womick stated, “On behalf of the Hampton Roads Firehouse Subs franchisees, I am proud to donate more than 300 toys to children in need of extra holiday cheer. The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters is an admirable organization and I hope this donation will help make this holiday season the brightest one yet for children who cannot be home this season.” Giving back is nothing new for Firehouse Subs, especially to the neighborhood and to first responders. Over $676,000 and over $1,925,000, respectively, have been given to first responder groups in the greater Hampton Roads area by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Shannon Hood, Manager of Child Life and Patient Experience commented, “We are very grateful to the local Firehouse Subs franchisees for collecting and donating these toys to CHKD. These toys will lift the spirits of children this holiday season, while also encouraging learning, development, and creativity.”
