During a press conference yesterday, Governor Ralph Northam shared that Virginia is on the right track in the fight against the coronavirus. Currently, Virginia’s seven-day average of COVID cases is at its lowest since October 2020, and hospitalizations and deaths have decreased dramatically. More people have been vaccinated and the Commonwealth continues to have a large number of clinics and facilities working to provide vaccinations.  Governor Northam said, if things continue in a positive direction, he plans to lift all capacity restrictions in Virginia on June 15. Changes to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions are already set to take effect on May 15, including allowing more people at social gatherings and entertainment venues. The midnight cut-off on alcohol sales and dining will also end. For more details visit the Governor’s website.  Everyone age 16 and over in Virginia is eligible to receive the COVID vaccine (16- and 17-year olds can only receive the Pfizer vaccine). The Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are being administered at the Community Vaccination Center (CVC) in the former Sherwood Shopping Center in Newport News (13785 Warwick Blvd.) Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.; the Moderna vaccine is administered on select dates. Walk-ins are welcome or you can schedule an appointment on the CVC website
