Great Bridge High School wins national contest
Great Bridge High School (GBH) is a National Winner in the 2022 Samsung
Solve for Tomorrow Contest! As one of three national winners, the school
will receive a $100,000 prize package including Samsung products and
classroom resources. In addition to their national winner status – thanks
to your votes and virtual support – they also won the Community Choice
Award which provides a technology prize package valued at $10,000.
The 12th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest challenged U.S.
students in grades 6-12 to use STEM (science, technology, engineering,
and math) to address local issues of national importance in a sustainable
way. This year’s teams were encouraged to use responsibly sourced
materials in their prototypes and align their project ideas with the United
Nation’s sustainable development goals.
Our GBH team, mentored by Ms. Paula Labbe, developed a strategic
solution to streamline school bus routes for increased efficiency. Their
solution features AcceleRoute – an app they designed and built to implement their solution and provide working proof!
This is Ms. Labbe’s fifth year mentoring a student team. It is impressive to
note that each of her five teams have earned honors in the contest including two national winners, one national finalist, and two state finalists. Mrs. Labbe estimates that she and her students have collectively won approximately $360,000 in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest in five competitions.
The GBH team traveled to New York City in April, 2022, to pitch their project to a panel of judges. The Wildcat team, represented by Donovan Carter, Camille Kersha-Aerga, Darren Labbe, and Mrs. Labbe, was able to receive
both awards in person at the livestreamed final event in New York City. To
