HAMPTON, Va. (January 15, 2020) – The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) is proud to host the 8th Annual Gala of Hope. We would like for you to join us as we celebrate Hampton University’s Community of Philanthropy on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, starting at 6 P.M. This event is open to the public.

“Our annual Gala of Hope has reached its eighth year and we couldn’t be more proud of the signature event it has become. Proceeds go towards Proton Therapy treatment for those who cannot afford it. This year, we are celebrating our philanthropic efforts of giving back to the community. To me, helping others is truly one of the greatest gifts that an individual can give to another, and that is part of Hampton’s DNA,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey. “We want to thank the community for the continued support of this event to help fight cancer and ease human suffering.”

Funds raised from the Gala of Hope will go towards supporting HUPTI’s efforts to assist with patient services and cancer research. HUPTI’s goal is to continue to have an impact on the fight against cancer, the second leading cause of disease-related death among Americans.

Celebrating Hampton University’s Community of Philanthropy is this year’s theme, encouraging individuals to join the spirit of helping those in need. Hampton University has always been a proponent of giving back to the community through philanthropy and service to those who truly need it. In that same spirit of humanitarian support, all donations to this cause will help support the health and wellness of cancer patients with a goal to decrease the number of suffering patients.

“We are very excited because this event has become a signature event within the community and we enjoy seeing the people who come out to support such a worthy cause,” said Hampton University Vice President for Development, Evelyn Graham. “We are grateful for the opportunity for Hampton University to host this event with our partners that have been beside us for the entire seven years, along with our sponsors and guests. We are looking forward to this fun-filled, elegant event!”

The black-tie affair features a gourmet dinner, dancing, networking, and a live musical performance that will leave guests with unforgettable memories, keep them smiling and on the dance floor the entire night.

All proceeds will directly support cancer patients at HUPTI who cannot afford treatment. Get your tickets now, as they are going fast! For additional information, call 757-728-4012 or email galaofhope@hamptonu.edu. Together, we are Easing Human Misery and Saving Lives!

HUPTI is the eighth proton facility in the U.S. and the largest of its kind in the world. At full operation, HUPTI is expected to treat approximately 2,000 patients per year with prostate, breast, brain, lung, head and neck, pediatric and other cancers. The actual treatment of protons lasts a mere minute. Patients are treated five days a week, from five to ten weeks.
