CANON GREEN OBITUARY

The Rev. Canon Dr. Joseph N. Green, Jr. of Norfolk Virginia passed peacefully on January 14, 2023 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Father Green is known and beloved by many for his heart and skill as a pastor as well as a civic leader. He had a distinguished career here in the Diocese of Southern Virginia as a past Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Norfolk. In 2021, Bishop Susan Haynes named him Canon Theologian for the Diocese of Southern Virginia, where he served in that role as part of the staff of Christ & St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Norfolk. He is survived by wife, Evelyn Grant Green; daughter, Angela Middleton; son, Joseph N. Green, III; two grandsons, Charles Middleton, IV; and Eric Sawyer; one great-grandson, Jalen Sawyer.

Service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11 A.M. Christ & St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Norfolk. The service will be live-streamed christandstlukes.org/live .
