NEW DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES ANNOUNCED

CHESAPEAKE – In March of 2020, as the City’s response to the COVID-19 global pandemic was beginning, City Manager Christopher Price announced the appointment of Allison B. Myers as Chesapeake’s new Director of Human Resources. Myers had been serving as Acting Director, following the December 2019 departure of former Director DL Mears, who was with the City for almost 9 years. Myers first came to Chesapeake in September of 2011, serving as the Assistant HR Director until her promotion.

“With more than 22 years of professional Human Resources experience, along with a detailed understanding of the City’s workforce and culture of providing outstanding customer services, Allison Myers was precisely the right person for this position,” said City Manager Price. “Allison shares my vision that our team members are the City’s greatest asset and she is committed to building, growing, training, and supporting our staff as they pursue both our CARE principles and our desire to provide outstanding service to every citizen, every day.”

Myers is a Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), as well as an International Public Management Association Human Resources Certified Professional (IPMA-CP). She holds a Masters of Science degree in Human Resources Management (Magna Cum Laude) from Troy University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Old Dominion University.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to continue to serve the City of Chesapeake as the Director of Human Resources,” said Myers. “I am so proud to be part of this amazing City and I look forward to implementing strategies to attract and retain top talent to support the City’s commitment to be an employer of choice.”

Prior to coming to Chesapeake, Myers spent seven years as the Senior Coordinator, Human Resources and Benefits with Norfolk Public Schools. She has also worked in private sector human resources positions with SB Ballard Construction, Alternative Behavioral Services of Norfolk, and Chartway Federal Credit Union.
