Swearing In and Organizational Meeting
At a ceremony yesterday morning, four newly elected City Council members were sworn into office. Mayor Phillip D. Jones, and Councilmembers Curtis D. Bethany, III (North District), John R. Eley, III (South District) and Cleon M. Long, P.E. (Central District), were sworn in for four-year terms. At the Organizational Meeting, City Council elected Councilman Curtis D. Bethany, III, to serve as Vice Mayor for the next two years.
Purchase of Property
City Council last night approved the purchase of 429 Thoncliff Drive. This site is currently owned by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula. The property is being purchased for $2.8M and the acquisition will allow for future recreational and educational opportunities accessible to citizens.
