NNPS Prepares for 2021-2022 School Year

In less than a week, Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) students will head back to school! The first day of school is Wednesday, September 8 and NNPS is welcoming students back to school with in-person, full day instruction five days a week for the 2021-2022 school year. Yesterday, the division hosted a Facebook Live to share information on back-to-school preparations, in-person instruction and safety protocols. You can view the video on the NNPS Facebook page. During the Facebook Live, several parents asked about their child’s bus stop. You can visit the NNPS Bus Stop Query and Zonefinder website for details on your child’s stop. If you do not plan to use a school bus to transport your child to and from school this year, please email the Transportation Department to inform them at busoptout@nn.k12.va.us and make sure you include each child’s full name and school. Dr. George Parker, School Superintendent, shared that the division is actively recruiting school bus drivers. Visit the NNPS website to view a flyer on employment as a bus driver and the training classes that are taking place. Virtual and in-person open houses are taking place this week. Visit the NNPS Back to School webpage for details. The page also contains answers to frequently asked questions, such as:

  • When will middle and high school student schedules be available?
  • How do I find out about school meals and snacks?
  • What vaccinations are required for enrollment?
  • What supplies does my child need?

Students are also reminded to get their Chromebook ready for school. Repair clinics are continuing to take place this week. For more information, view the Chromebook Clinic flyer or visit the NNPS Connected at Home website.
