Order Your FREE At-Home COVID Tests

Appointments available at testing site in Newport News; Free N95 masks from federal government next week
As the number of COVID cases across the country rise due to the omicron variant, it’s even more important that you protect yourself and test if you begin to show symptoms. Residential households in the U.S. can order one set of 4 free at-home tests from USPS.com. Orders are limited to one per residential address and include four individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests. Orders will ship free beginning in late January.  To request your kits, visit special.usps.com/testkits. After you enter your address, you will need to click the green “Check Out Now” button. You will not need to pay or enter any credit card information.  If you need a COVID test sooner, appointments are available at the Virginia Department of Health’s Community Testing Center in Newport News (13785 Warwick Boulevard). The site is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. These are Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests and results are available in approximately three days. To schedule an appointment, visit the Virginia Department of Health website (walk-ins are not accepted). Residents are also encouraged to wear a mask when in public or around those who are not vaccinated. The federal government will make 400 million N95 masks available for free to Americans starting next week, now that federal officials are emphasizing their better protection against the omicron variant of COVID-19 over cloth face coverings. According to initial reports, masks will be available for pickup at pharmacies and community health centers across the country. We will share additional information when it becomes available.
