Over Three Million Minutes of Reading Logged in the NNPL Summer Reading Challenge!

Congratulations to the participants in this year’s Newport News Public Library Summer Reading Challenge! The readers exceeded last year’s total, logging over three million reading minutes between June 20 – July 31!
This year, through the efforts of the Newport News Public Library Outreach staff, over 2,000 young readers from the Newport News Public Schools SPARK program joined the challenge, as well as participants from Newport News Parks & Recreation Youth Programs, the C. Waldo Scott Center, and area preschools. Employees of the City of Newport News, Riverside Health System, and Sentara Hospital participated in this year’s challenge to encourage adult reading as a lifelong activity.
The Summer Reading Challenge featured free programs and events at each library branch. Participants were eligible for weekly prizes drawings, and readers who logged at least 15 hours of reading during the challenge received achievement prizes.
