Portsmouth will resume collections for customers with past-due water bills

By: City of Portsmouth

In March 2020, the Portsmouth Department of Public Utilities temporarily
suspended water disconnections for delinquent water accounts due to the
COVID-19 pandemic.

ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2022, THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
UTILITIES WILL RESUME DELINQUENT COLLECTIONS FOR
CUSTOMERS WITH PAST-DUE WATER ACCOUNTS.

A delinquent water account includes potable water, sewage, and refuse
collection costs. To ensure that your water service is not disconnected,
water customers must pay bills in full or arrange an approved payment plan with the Department of Public Utilities. Payments may be made in person at the City Treasurer’s Office; by calling (757) 393-5008, or payments may be made online at https://www2. portsmouthva.gov/mywater.

Portsmouth water customers are responsible for paying their bills by
payment deadlines. Public Utilities has taken steps to address the needs
of our customers through various payment assistance programs, and we
continue to offer payment extensions and payment plans to avoid water
service interruptions. Trouble paying your utility bill? Portsmouth Public Utilities can help you set up a payment plan. Please call us Monday-Friday, 8 AM-4:30 PM at 757-393-8524.
