Soundscapes Spreads Holiday Cheer
By: City of Newport News
Yesterday, four students from Soundscapes enjoyed a holiday musical tour throughout Newport News. Alana, Jayden, Malaiah, and Serenity, 4th and 5th grade students from Carver Elementary School, stopped at city businesses to share the lessons they are learning and spread holiday cheer.
The dynamic young musicians performed at City Hall and impressed employees and visitors with their skills. The crowd sang along to holiday favorites and marveled at their skills and confidence. They then continued their journey through the city, making stops at TowneBank, Newport News Public Schools, The Mariners’ Museum and Park, Patten Wornom Hatten & Diamonstein, L.C., and JMS Capital Group!
Soundscapes programs develop students both musically and socially through FREE daily after school programs and the Peninsula Youth Orchestra. Learning and practicing music, while also performing in public, are ideal opportunities for students to build self-confidence and understand the importance of perseverance. Soundscapes provides these opportunities at no cost to students thanks to generous community support.
