Spring Into Learning at the Brooks Crossing iLab
By: City of Newport News
Spring is a time for growth and new beginnings. In Newport News, residents can undergo their own personal transformation at the Brooks Crossing Innovation and Opportunity Center. The facility offers unique events and trainings that help each person unlock their potential and use cutting-edge technology to explore and discover the world around them. High schoolers in 11th and 12th grade are invited to explore military STEM careers during a Spring Break Camp from April 4 through April 8. Sessions take place from 9 a.m. until noon and include hands-on 3D printing, wood sculpting, music making, and more! The camp also includes armed services recruiter seminars. Have you ever wanted to learn AutoCAD? Residents age 16 and up are invited to register for “Introduction to AutoCAD” to learn about basic two-dimensional computer aided drafting (CAD) with AutoCAD, the most popular CAD software used by architects, engineers, surveyors, and others in construction and manufacturing fields. Sessions are being held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. from April 11 until May 9. The STEM Spring Break Camp and AutoCAD course are free, but registration is required and space is very limited. Visit the iLab registration page to sign up. Additional spring offerings for adults at the iLab include an Entrepreneurs’ Workshop on April 16 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and a Pathway to Homeownership session on April 22 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. To register for these sessions, email brookscrossing@odu.edu. All sessions take place at the Brooks Crossing iLab at 550 30th Street, Suite 101 in Newport News. For questions, email brookscrossing@odu.edu.
