Statement from When We All Vote Executive Director on President Biden’s Voting Rights Speech
(Washington, D.C.): Today, Stephanie L. Young, Executive Director of When We All Vote, a leading voting organization committed to increasing participation in every election, released a statement following President Biden’s speech on voting rights in Philadelphia, PA.
“Today, President Biden reaffirmed that we must protect our right to vote. We need action at the federal level now to ensure every American can make their voices heard in our elections. That’s why When We All Vote is mobilizing our community to urge the Senate to pass the For the People Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act,” said Young.
“Americans, especially young, Black, and Brown voters turned out in record numbers in the 2020 election, despite a global pandemic and rampant voter suppression. In response, state lawmakers are seeking to pass more than 400 voter suppression bills to limit our ability to register to vote and cast our ballots. It’s clear that there is a coordinated attack on our voting rights. We know that our democracy is at stake, and that’s why we will continue to fight for every American’s right to vote. ”
A poll found that 83 percent of Americans support passing the For the People Act. When We All Vote volunteers have made nearly 8,000 calls and sent nearly 5,000 emails to members of Congress, and in partnership with Vote.org and the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition, When We All Vote coordinated more than 80 corporate leaders calling on the Senate to protect our right to vote.
