Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation2022 Emerging Scholars Program. Ph.D. students who are considering or working on a dissertation related to banking are encouraged to apply to the 2022 Emerging Scholars Program.Up to three applicants will be selected and invited to participate in the 2022 Community Banking Research Conference to be held Sept. 28-29 at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The conference is sponsored jointly by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve System, and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors.Applications are due by June 17 and winners will be announced July 29.  Interested parties can receive additional information by contacting conference@communitybanking.org.

Appalachian Regional CommissionThe Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is now accepting applications for the fourth class of the Appalachian Leadership Institute, a free leadership and economic development training opportunity for individuals currently living and/or working in one of ARC’s 13 Appalachian states. The Appalachian Leadership Institute is an all-inclusive, nine-month program focusing on skill-building, seminars, best practice reviews, mentoring, and networking to equip passionate Appalachian leaders with the skills, vision, and connections needed to help their communities thrive.The curriculum is anchored by six multi-day seminars across the Appalachian region focusing on each of ARC’s 2022-2026 strategic investment priorities, which aim to strengthen economic and community growth in Appalachia. The fourth class will run from October 2022 through July 2023 and prepare fellows to:Design effective economic development project proposalsIntegrate community assets into long-term economic development strategiesIdentify resources available to spark economic and community developmentLocate and access investment capital from a variety of public and private sourcesPrepare competitive applications for public grant opportunitiesUse expanded connections and leadership skills to create strong regional coalitionsThe Appalachian Leadership Institute is limited to 40 fellows annually, drawn from a variety of Appalachia’s public, private, and nonprofit industry sectors. Each class includes a diverse network of leaders to reflect the Appalachian region’s wide diversity of economic development challenges, opportunities, and strategies. Travel, in-person sessions, and other associated participation costs are covered by the Appalachian Regional Commission.Applications for the 2022-2023 class are open through June 1, 2022. U.S. Department of EnergyDOE’s Office of Science is Accepting Applications for Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Awards . The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Science is now accepting applications for the Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program for the 2022 Solicitation 1 cycle. Applications are due on May 4.The SCGSR program supports awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to conduct part of their graduate thesis research at a DOE national laboratory or host site in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist — with the goal of preparing graduate students for scientific and technical careers. The research opportunity is expected to advance the graduate students’ overall graduate theses, while providing access to the expertise, resources, and capabilities available at the host DOE laboratories.
