Trump Establishes Commission Supporting Military Spouses and Families

President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating the President’s Military Spouse Commission. The commission will focus on challenges facing military spouses and their families. Military families often relocate because of service requirements. These moves can make it difficult for spouses to maintain careers and find stable opportunities. The administration says supporting military families can also strengthen military readiness and retention.

The commission will advise the president on policies affecting military spouses and families. Members will communicate with spouses to better understand their concerns. The commission will examine issues involving employment, housing, healthcare, and education. It will also consider support available to families during military deployments. Recommendations will be presented to the president as part of the commission’s work.

The commission will include spouses of senior military leaders and other selected participants. Federal agencies may provide information and assistance when appropriate. Members will serve without compensation but may receive eligible travel reimbursements. Subcommittees may also be created to examine specific issues facing military families. The commission is scheduled to operate for two years unless the president extends it.
