Volunteers Needed for One City Marathon

By: City of Newport News

The Newport News One City Marathon Weekend will be full of opportunities to volunteer and get involved. More than 2,000 runners are expected to participate in the One City Marathon Weekend presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, Mar. 3-5, 2023. The races include the signature One City Marathon, the BayPort Credit Union Half Marathon, the Optima Health Maritime 5K, and the Nautical Mile Fun Run presented by Ferguson Cares.

Now in its 9th year, the One City Marathon attracts runners seeking to qualify for the Boston Marathon, with a relatively flat, fast course that leads from the woods of Newport News Park and culminates at the Victory Arch located in the downtown Yard District.

Volunteer positions are available at various locations throughout the weekend. We want to encourage both individuals and groups to consider getting involved in this exciting event. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Bib Distribution
  • Traffic Wardens
  • One City Celebration Set-Up and Breakdown
  • Trash/Recycle Station Patrol/Monitor
  • Half Marathon Start Line
  • Shuttle Attendants

Those who are interested in volunteering for the 2023 race can visit the One City Marathon website to register or contact Volunteer Coordinator Yvette Williams at ywilliams@nnva.gov.
